Cedar Eaters of Texas has a Wilt Eater which has the power to reduce dead, oak wilt infected, oaks to chips and saw dust. By clearing the property by this method there should be no problem with the spread of the fungal spore mats. Another reason we believe our method is safer than dozers and burning is that the Wilt Eater is on rubber tires and will not damage the shallow root system of the oaks and possibly cause further spread of the disease. Where the tracks of a dozer can cause open wounds to healthy roots as it tracks across the property pushing the dead trees to open piles.
We have been doing some test cutting and have found that we can cut oaks up to 30 inches in diameter and depending upon how long they have been dead or how rotten they are, we can cut them up anywhere from 40 minutes a tree to a little over an hour.
Our DEMO VIDEO show the Wilt Eater on several different size oaks.
The Wilt Eater is a Barko 930 Mulcher is designed for the most demanding right of way land clearing and site prep applications. It has a highly maneuverable carrier with heavy duty hydrostatic drive, and efficient load sensing hydraulics.
REGROWTH OF CEDARS
"The Cedar Eater mulched hundreds of cedars at the Broken O Ranch in 2001 to 2003. We had also used a bulldozer to clear some of the land during the same time. Four years later we are faced with an unbelievable amount of regrowth cedar resulting from the bulldozing and very little from the Cedar Eater. "
